According to FBR Capital Markets analyst Craig Berger, Apple may roll out a new version of the iPad this fall. According to Berger, however, It won’t be the iPad 3, but a spec-boosted iPad 2 with a higher resolution screen.
According to Berger, the new model of the iPad will have a pixel density of between 250 and 300 as opposed to the current model’s 132. This would bring it up to near-Retina levels. Unfortunately, Berger doesn’t provide any real evidence, and he even cautions that it may not happen after all, since suppliers may not be able to get enough screens to Apple in time.
Aside from that, it would be unwise for Apple to unleash a second iPad this year, just months after the iPad 2 was released. Many people are still yet to receive an iPad 2, the iPad 2 is still far on top of the competition, and the update, besides not making any real functional difference on the surface level, would certainly serve to irritate customers that have just purchased an expensive iPad 2.
My credibility rating for Berger’s rumor? 2 out of 10 at most.
