Sonic The Hedgehog Turns 20, Celebrates With New Universal iOS Racing App!

20 years ago today (June 23, 1991), a beloved blue hedgehog appeared on Sega systems everywhere – that’s right, I’m talking about Sonic the Hedgehog! It’s his 20th birthday, and Sega is celebrating by releasing the new Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing on the App Store ($1.99, App Store Link)!

The game, which is essentially Sega’s Sonic-themed version of Mario Kart, is a universal app for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, and to celebrate Sonic’s birthday, it’s on sale for just 2 bucks until June 25, after which it will go up to $4.99. The game is graphically rich, and the gameplay is quite smooth, plus it features the addictive music that Sonic fans have come to love.

The game features 10 playable characters, each with their own vehicle (which include planes, bikes, and even bananas!), loops to speed through, traps to avoid, weapons to fire against your enemies, and special “All-Star” moves to get ahead of the competition. The game features both single player and multiplayer modes.

There are 25 missions to complete in the game, and three Grand Prix cups to win. Multiplayer works over Bluetooth with friends that are in range, as well as working through the Game Center with up to 3 friends.

I’ve briefly tried this out, and I love it – if you’re a Sonic fan, you owe it to yourself to try it out ($1.99, App Store Link)! If you do, sound off in the comments with your thoughts!
