Rumor: New Thunderbolt Enabled Mac Minis, Mac Pros Coming In August

According to a series of tweets put out by Cnet’s Brian Tong, various sources have confirmed that updated models of the Mac Mini and Mac Pro will not come out next month, as has been previously hinted at, but rather August.

The new Mac Minis and Mac Pros are expected to feature support for Apple and Intel’s new Thunderbolt technology, which enables ultra-high-speed 10Gbps data transfer speeds in a dual-channel config, meaning that there is a separate 10 gigs dedicated for both uplink and downlink data.

More specifically, the tweet indicates that the release will come sometime between the last part of July to the first week of August. This information comes in the wake of a plethora of compelling rumors suggesting that new MacBook Airs will be released in July alongside Apple’s official release of OS X Lion.

While I wonder why Apple wouldn’t simply release all their new hardware at the same time, Tong does have a pretty decent track record with these sorts of things, leaving me a bit undecided as to my interpretation of these rumors.

Your thoughts? As always, please feel free to sound off in the comments.
