Rumor Mill: Voice Features Weren’t Ready For WWDC, Will Still Come To iOS 5

Many rumors preceding the big WWDC keynote suggested that iOS 5 might be getting fantastic upgraded voice control features, yet we did not see these in the keynote. According to rumors, this is because they weren’t ready, and they’ll still be coming this fall.

There are a lot of good reasons to suspect that Apple would revamp their voice control system – Apple has acquired Siri – a company that developed an iPhone personal assistant heavily dependent on voice control – as well as having reportedly struck a deal with Nuance to use their excellent digital voices.

TechCrunch, the source of this rumor, said that at least three of its sources were “very surprised” about the lack of mention of voice control features in iOS 5. Commenting on the story, Robert Scoble said he heard the feature wasn’t done in time for WWDC.

I was told weeks ago by my source (same one who told me Twitter would be integrated deeply into the OS) that Siri wouldn’t be done in time,” Scoble said. “Maybe for this fall’s release of iPhone 5? After all, they need to have some fun things to demo for us in August, no?

While apple did introduce and highlight many new features and improvements, voice control was just not among them – and apparently nothing of the sort has been found in the developer beta as yet, either.

So, will we see a new, much better, massively revamped version of Voice Control in iOS 5? It’s still a possibility, but as always with these rumors, only time will tell.
