Apparently Mobile Safari’s performance under iOS 5 beta is lightning fast, and even beat out existing Windows Phone 7 devices with Mango loaded on them in a speed test set up by none other than Microsoft themselves.
The story goes that Joe Belfiore, Director for the Windows Phone program, demonstrated the mobile version of Internet Explorer 9 by pitting it against the iPhone 4 running iOS 5. Much to his dismay, the iPhone won, running content at 31 frames per second versus the Windows Phone’s 26, showing a dramatic performance increase for HTLM5 content.
This is a beautiful result, and it’s just the beginning. People currently using the iOS 5 beta are aware that it is very much a beta, riddled with bugs and performance concerns. The fact that it can trash Windows Phone “Mango” in Microsoft’s own tests, especially at this state, is a good sign, as that performance will only increase as work on iOS 5 moves forward. Check out the below preview video to see the test in action.
I dunno about you, but I personally can’t stop smiling after seeing this video. Your thoughts? Sound off in the comments!
