We’ve been hearing reports that Best Buy, not wanting to be left out of the race of college students purchasing laptops for their education, will be matching Apple’s offer of a free $100 iTunes gift card with purchase of any Mac.
We previously reported that Apple, in a rare break from tradition, will not be giving away free iPod Touches to students who purchase Macs this year, but instead will offer a $100 iTunes gift card – perhaps their way of promoting the App Store market trend. Best Buy, however, will apparently be matching Apple’s new offer.
This should come as no surprise, as Best Buy is typically pretty agressive with promotions like this, but the interesting bit is that students will apparently have to specifically ask for the promotional offer to receive the gift card, unlike Apple shoppers, who will likely be informed while shopping. Further, the promotion will reportedly entail a Best Buy store gift card rather than iTunes credit.
