A weak Apple inventory channel suggests that Apple’s Mac Pro and Mac Mini server options are due for an immanent update. Constrained supplies are usually a sign that a refresh is near, and both the Mac Pro and Mac Mini Server are, in a word, due, so keep an eye out.
Our source reports that both the Mac Pro and Mac Mini Server are experiencing significant shortages, creating speculation that both lines of hardware could soon see an update. Combining this with the recent MacBook Air refresh rumors (which we reported earlier today), and it seems likely that, if that MacBook Air gets refreshed for July, and the server hardware really is going to be refreshed, both events will likely occur at the same time.
Apple’s Time Capsule and AirPort extreme networking products are also in short supply with many folks expecting an update in the near future, and since they’re both related to Apple’s server hardware, they might come along for the refresh ride. July could be a big month for Apple, with OS X Lion due to be released, and a plethora of hardware updates all possibly in the pipes.
If the Mac Mini and Mac Pro are refreshed, there is every chance that they will include both Sandy Bridge processors, as well as gaining the new Thunderbolt I/O superspeed data interface. The Mac Pro has also been rumored to be getting a possible cosmetic redesign (which we reportedback in April), which will allow it to be rack-mountable.
