A new MacBook Air will be released with “100% certainty” on Wednesday, according to @ChronicWire. We mentioned that a refresh was due for a July, but @ChronicWire seems certain it will be June 15. There is another report indicating Apple will also be kicking off their Back to School promotion.
This would fit with the typical “Dads and Grads” promotions leading up to Father’s Day June 19th and high school graduation season that is now in full swing. A new MacBook Air with Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt would certainly make a great gift for the graduate starting college this fall. Apple’s Back to School promo has traditionally been a free iPod with any Mac purchase after rebate, but they may also offer $200 off an iPad as an option this year.
It is also conceivable that Apple would use the new MacBook Air as an in-store promotional tool for the July release of OS X Lion. They have already promised a free upgrade from Snow Leopard for systems purchased on or after the June 6th WWDC Keynote.
Apple might also release new Mac Pros, Mac Minis and Mac Mini Servers and even new Time Capsules and AirPort routers with iOS 5 capabilities along with the MacBook Air update. Another report indicates Apple may be eliminating the software wall in retail stores in light of the big push for the Mac App Store in Lion.
Wednesday is just around the corner, so keep your browser dialed in to MacTrast for more details soon.
