Apple Readying Lion For Touchscreen MacBooks And iMacs?

Although Steve Jobs has clearly stated that Apple does not see a place for a multitouch iMac or MacBook, citing ergonomic issues, our source informs us that Apple has filed a patent detailing a new and far more arm-friendly way to get the job done.

Possible (unlikely) mockup of a futuristic MacBook Touch

Of course, Steve also mentioned, just one year ago, that he was “skeptical” about the cloud, and look what just happened at WWDC – iCloud! Keeping all this in mind, the patent provides several interesting images of what multitouch iMacs and Macbooks might be like, and how they might work.

The patent demonstrates, among other things, that Apple is already thinking through how they will make Mac OS fully touch controllable, and this is not the first patent of its kind that has ever been unearthed – some similar patents surfaced last year as well.

What are your thoughts? Will we see the Mac platform overhauled for touch in the not-so-distant future? Sound off in the comments!
