Apple May Be Recalling Verizon iPad 2s

According to our source (who says they heard it from an Apple employee), Apple is selectively recalling some Verizon iPad 2s for recall, with some iPads being returned to the factory mid-shipment before delivery.

The Apple Store employee was quoted as saying:

Apple has given all the stores a list of serial numbers to scan, if it\’s a match we were told to set aside and ship back to Apple, these are only for Verizon ipads. This was to be done on Monday and continue to scan all shipments thru June 11. I had over one hundred to send back.

Additionally, our source has received numerous reports that Verizon iPads being shipped from China are being returned to Apple mid-shipment. All of the affected units appear to be personally engraved models. Apple’s discussion forums also seem to feature a number of complaints about this.

While it isn’t at all clear why the units are being “silently” recalled, I find it more than interesting that all of the affected units appear to be personally engraved ones – I suspect that the factory has made a mistake on the engraving, and want to ensure that customers are happy. Apple is reportedly offering some kind of a credit to affected customers in addition to replacing/re-ordering their iPads 2’s.

Have any of you experienced problems with this? If so, we want to hear from you. Sound off in the comments!
