Apple’s iOS App Store, Mac App Store, and iTunes store are all down for the count, with initial reports having come in around 2 PM eastern. The store is accessible and can be opened, but no apps can be purchased or installed.
App updates are also affected, though available updates do appear on the updates tab, and I can confirm, having tried all three stores, that the rumors certainly seem to be true. Oddly, some users are reporting that installations are working sporadically, while others are not able to install any apps at all.
There aren’t a ton of reasons why all of Apple’s content stores would go down in the middle of the day, mid-week, shortly before WWDC. I suspect that something big is in the pipes – perhaps they are prepping OS X Lion for immediate download?
