Shantanu Narayen, Adobe’s CEO, claims that their spat with Apple over Flash is over.
Adobe & Apple have clashed many-a-time over Apple’s refusal to allow Flash onto their iOS devices. And it now seems to have come to a end.
Apple blacklisted Flash over claims that it is a common culprit for browser crashes in Safari and in mobile devices. Other concerns included performance & security issues where Flash applications could result in battery drain and provide a doorway for hackers to exploit devices.
Narayen was speaking at the D9 conference by All Things Digital when he was asked by Walt Mossberg (Wall St Journal) if the argument over Flash is over. Narayen replied: “Absolutely”.
The argument might be over but it’s not because a resolution was found. Adobe simply gave up fighting a losing battle.
Apple didn’t want Flash. Adobe didn’t want to admit to Apple’s claims. Deadlock.
With the emergence of HTML5 for video & game playback, coupled with the fact that iOS devices are responsible for approximately 80% of mobile video plays, is it safe to say that Flash isn’t missed on iOS?
