Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt Equipped MacBook Air Coming June or July

DigiTimes is reporting a late June or early July refresh of the impossibly thin MacBook Air line. This report is in line with what we heard a month ago.

The new models will feature Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors, bringing them in line with the MacBook Pro and iMac lines updated earlier this year. The Air will also feature the Thunderbolt I/O, giving it a 10Gbps interface with 6 separate channels, including enough bandwidth to drive an external display. Doesn’t this pretty much make the MacBook “Nothing” a lame duck?

Perhaps we will see these unveiled at WWDC in a few weeks with Steve Jobs pulling an Oprah on the attendees: “and you get a MacBook Air, and you get a MacBook Air!”

James first bit into Apple when his mom and dad bought an Apple IIe in 1986. He switched to Wintel in the mid 90s when Apple was in a tailspin and back again to an iBook in 2005 when things were looking brighter. Hopefully there is no turning back to the dark side now.
