During Wednesday’s media call in which Apple announced a massive $5.99 billion profit for Q2 2011, Tim Cook divulged that Steve Jobs wants to make a full-time return as Apple’s CEO “as soon as he can”.
Tim Cook has filled in as acting CEO in Jobs’ place since January ’11 when he took an indefinite leave of absence on medical grounds. This hasn’t stopped Jobs from making executive decisions from the sidelines, however, he would much prefer to be more active.
“He is still on medical leave but we do see him on a regular basis. He continues to be involved in major strategic decisions. I know he wants to be back full time as soon as he can,” said Cook.
It’s not yet clear as to the reasoning behind Jobs’ leave of absence. Jobs did undergo a liver transplant in April 2009.
Jobs made a welcome cameo appearance on stage at the iPad 2 launch in March but there is no date yet for his full-time return.
