iTunes has been showing a completely new and unique placeholder name under “requirements” for some App Store apps. A few apps have been shown as being compatible with “ix.Mac.MarketingName.” Could this be the Apple device to bridge the gap?
A MacRumors reader recently stumbled over this new name, and while there are many ways to interpret the name, and why it might be showing up, I offer a more ambitious interpretation, in agreement with iPhoneAlley.com’s Michael DeLisi.
Since Apple and iTunes have complete control over this name showing up, it seems likely that something is being tested, and while the appearance is seemingly unintentional, the name deserves some analysis. The iX portion of the name cold refer to iOS, the Mac portion of the name probably referers to, well, the Mac, and the last portion, MarketingName, is the bit they haven’t come up with yet.
This possible new device would have to be quite unique and revolutionary… but we won’t offer any speculation beyond that. What about you? What are your thoughts? Would you use such a device if Apple offered it? Sound off in the comments.
