Mac sales figures for 2nd quarter expected to be impressive

Sure everyone cares about the iPad and iPhone sales figures. But the Mac is no slouch.

Tomorrow, Apple will release their 2nd quarter 2011 earnings and NPD Group expects that the Macintosh will support a big share of the three-legged stool of Apple’s business: Mac, iOS, Music/Video.

According to AllThingsD:

In January, U.S. Mac sales were up 20 percent year-over-year. In February they were up 12 percent.
And in March?
Up 47 percent, year-over-year.

Impressive growth that is not seen from other computer makers.

My favorite machine, the 11″ MacBook Air, and the revamp of the MacBook Pro line with Thunderbolt no doubt have contributed to the uptake in OS X machines. If Lion proves to come in with a roar later this year, expect these numbers to steadily grow.

Soon we shall soon see. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s coverage.

James first bit into Apple when his mom and dad bought an Apple IIe in 1986. He switched to Wintel in the mid 90s when Apple was in a tailspin and back again to an iBook in 2005 when things were looking brighter. Hopefully there is no turning back to the dark side now.
