AppleInsider reports that the upcoming and widely anticipated OS X 10.7 Lion release, which is slated for this summer, will contain a new development framework called Scene Kit, which will make it easy for devs to support 3D rendereing with apps.
A developer familiar with Lion has explained to AppleInsider that the new framework will support the import, manipulation, and rendering of 3D assets, and will handle the complex end of 3D graphics for developers.
If and when this new framework is released, expect a lot more 3D capable apps, and even a lot more games, to show up on the OS X platform, which currently does not have a great deal to offer in that arena, with much lower developer support than for other platforms, such as Microsoft Windows and DirectX.
