Amazon has just announced a neat new feature allowing Kindle users to borrow Kindle e-books from over 11,000 local libraries in the US. While intriguing, its unclear how much this will be used, or which libraries will support the feature.
This is a pretty significant situation – you will be able to check out a Kindle book, and do thinks with it you couldn’t do with a normal library book, like underline, highlight, and annotate as you read. Your notes will of course be absent when the next user checks it out.
While this is interesting, I should not that iOS users have been able to use an app called OverDrive (Free, App Store) for some time, which does the same thing, only with more libraries (13,000).
