We have our new Macbook Pro’s, and the iPad 2 release is imminent. We also have iOS 4.3 to look forward to alongside OS X 10.7 Lion. So, what’s next for everyone to talk about? Naturally, it’s the iPhone 5.
Fresh rumors from Japanese site Macotakara.jp (citing Chinese sources) claim the iPhone 5 will have an aluminum back case akin to the iPad. The antenna will be redesigned too, so that signals (3G, wifi, etc.) will be sent & received through the plastic Apple logo on the rear of the case.
This is, of course, a departure from the iPhone 4 case design which is far more rigid and has a sheer black back on the case made of glass. Early into the product launch Apple came under fire for having poor signal strength issues, particularly for US customers on AT&T who reported wide ranging call dropping issues. This, it appeared, came as a result of the way in which the antenna was placed in the phone, which subsequently got blocked when you held the phone a certain way.
As always, this rumor is just that – a rumor, so take it with a pinch of salt. It’s also advised to expect far more rumors on the horizon as a launch is likely in the summer, regardless of what the device looks like.
