After years of trying to compete with the iPod with their Zune media player, Microsoft has now officially pulled the plug. According to Bloomberg, weak ongoing sales are the source for the product’s cancellation.
Microsoft originally released the Zune in 2006, touting the device as eventually becoming an iPod killer and overtaking Apple. After failing to even break into the top 5 of devices in this category, it was clear to the world that the Zune was not the rampant success it was meant to be.
We’d love to hear your thoughts? Did you like the Zune? Are you surprised that it has failed so massively? Sound off in the comments!
