According to a report from AppleBitch, Apple may be opening its retail stores an hour early tomorrow for continued iPad 2 sales. No official announcement has been made, but anecdotal claims from shoppers across the country suggest that customers are being told that Apple store will be getting additional stock today, which they will begin selling 1 hour prior to regular opening tomorrow, Tuesday the 14th.
AppleBitch has apparently called to confirm this independently by calling a number of Apple retail stores. 2 of the three stores reportedly confirmed that this is true. I myself have called my local Apple Store (Apple Store At The Gateway, Salt Lake City, Utah) to conform this, and have been told that indeed they will be opening early.
For many stores this would mean a 9am opening time. It is likely that Apple is coordinating the sales this way so that they can manage crowd control rather than first-come first-served at various times today. Additionally, more media coverage of a second bout of queued shoppers for the iPad 2 won’t hurt publicity.
We suggest calling your local Apple store to find out for sure whether or not they specifically will be offering the iPad 2 an hour early tomorrow morning. As for me, I’ll send a runner to the store at 9 AM tomorrow to see what happens.
