While the built in iBooks app on the iPad is superb for reading, it doesn’t do much for children for obvious reasons. Oceanhouse Media has approached kids books the right way, which is by using a phenomenal interactive format. They have been amassing quite the catalog since last year and now have 47 titles for use on the iPad, with almost every title being geared towards children. From the ever-popular Dr. Seuss and Berenstain Bears to classics like Little Critter and more, these are impressively engaging books for the children. By having the option of the parent reading to the child or having the book read itself to the kids, it is very accommodating. Children can touch any of the pictures on the pages and the word will appear and be spoken. Also, little games such as trying to locate all of the mice throughout a book are fun as well.
While I still primarily search for apps that I will find useful or fun, occasionally I’ll hop over to see if there’s anything for the little ones as they are becoming quite accustomed to the iPad. If you have children, grandchildren, etc. and haven’t had an opportunity to check out any of these titles, pop onto the App Store on your iPad and search for Oceanhouse Media. You can download a sample of one of the titles and I guarantee your kids will love it. Ranging from $1.99 to $3.99, they are great deals considering the content. Also, now having folders on the iPad really comes in handy due to the fact that each title is an independent app. Now Green Eggs and Ham can be read in a box, with a fox, with Mom or Dad or on iPad.
