Facebook has acknowledged that it is aware of an issue where its app uses a large amount of an iOS device’s battery life. The social network says a fix is on the way.
A Facebook spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that the company is aware of the bug and promised a fix would be in place “soon.”
“We have heard reports of some people experiencing battery issues with our iOS app. We’re looking into this and hope to have a fix in place soon,” the spokesperson said.
A number of iOS device users have reported that the Facebook app is using large amounts of battery power, even if background refresh is turned off for the app. As you can see in the screenshot above, our iPhone 6 Plus shows an outrageous 47% of battery usage over the last 7 days was by the Facebook app.
While some believe the culprit might be the app’s auto-playing of videos, we can confirm that we have that feature turned off on our device. Facebook hasn’t officially announced what is causing the extreme battery drain, but it is working on a fix.
