Apple jumped the gun today and updated its iPad User Guide for iOS 8 with screenshots that confirm rumored details about the company’s upcoming iPad updates, due to be introduced at Thursday’s Apple event. While both the web page and iBookstore screenshots have been updated, the book itself appears to have not yet been.
The screenshots, shown above, indicate new iPad models referred to as the “iPad mini 3″ and the iPad Air 2.” Both models are shown to have Touch ID support, and the screenshot below indicates “Burst Mode” for the iPad Air 2’s built-in camera app.
The titles at the top of the screenshots indicate “iPad User Guide for iOS 8.1” which means the updated version of iOS 8 – which will include support for Apple’s new mobile payments system, Apple Pay – will likely be released following Apple’s event on Thursday.
In addition to Touch ID, the iPad Air 2 is said to boast an improved A8X processor, a new anti-reflective display, and a gold color option. The iPad mini is likely to receive Touch ID and little else in the way of improvements, as Apple is said to be focusing on its larger sibling.
Apple is expected to debut the iPad Air 2 – and apparently an updated Retina iPad mini – alongside updated iMacs, including a 27-inch model sporting a Retina display, at their event, coming up on Thursday, October 16. MacTrast will be live-tweeting the event, with all the information about the announcements immediately following the event.
