Music video platform Vevo has reportedly signed deals with both Apple and Samsung to deliver streaming and on-demand video content via set-top boxes and televisions. The service’s debut on the Apple TV could come as early as this week.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Vevo will deliver its usual assortment of on-demand music videos, as it does via YouTube, as well as a new channel that serves up streaming content 24 hours a day.
Vevo was reportedly working on a streaming app earlier this month for the Apple TV. Sources say that is still in the works, however the company will also be releasing a service for Samsung televisions.
It is believed the Apple TV will be the first device to offer Vevo via an app, with Samsung’s version likely “a few weeks away.”
Vevo is reportedly looking for other distribution methods than YouTube, which grabs a significant amount of advertising revenue for each video that is served up on the service. Vevo will get a larger chunk of the revenue via its new apps. The music video provider is also said to be considering a move into cable television, so far though, a deal has not been reached.
Vevo currently is offered via apps for the Xbox 360 gaming console, and the Roku streaming device.
