Leading up to Apple’s September 12 media event, The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple is currently preparing their own streaming music service, which would presumably compete with the likes of Pandora and Spotify.
As expected, the streaming music service would reportedly work across all of Apple’s various devices, including the Mac. Apple has already begin to dabble in streaming music with their iTunes Match service, which allows users to access their entire music library through the cloud for a $25 per year annual fee.
Even more interesting is that WSJ is not alone. shortly after The Wall Street Journal published their report, The New York Times reported that they’ve been hearing the same thing. Apple is reportedly currently negotiating licensing for the service.
Both reports state that the service would be available for free, and supported by Apple’s iAds platform, and could launch in “a matter of months.” The fact that two large mainstream news sources are both reporting the same details is interesting, to say the least…
