Following Verizon’s recent announcement that they would begin offering shared data plans, AT&T today announced shared data plans of their own, which will become available sometime in late August.
Like Verizon’s plans, AT&T’s share data plans all include unlimited voice minutes and text messages, with the total monthly cost depending on the amount of data chosen with each plan. The shared data plans also include tethering at no additional charge.
AT&T’s data plans also offer discounts on how much it costs to add additional smartphones to the plan. Plans start out at $45 per month for each smartphone with 1GB plans, but plans including more data feature lower rates. For instance, accounts that buy 10GB of data only pay $30 per month for each phone.
Current AT&T customers will not be required to switch to the new data plans, and new customers will be able to choose between the new shared plans, and the current individual and family mobile plans. The shared plans support up to 10 phones, one of which must be a smartphone.
