During this morning’s WWDC keynote, Apple just announced a new application called Passbook for iOS 6 – a great new way to store and use all of your passes, tickets, reward cards, and more on your iPhone! Here’s your chance to slim down that wallet a bit!
The tagline of the app is “The simplest way to get all your passes in one place,” and it looks pretty promising, allowing your iPhone to admit you to baseball games, pay for your Starbucks fix, or board a flight. It also automatically updates gift card balances and boarding passes in real-time!
From Apple’s iOS 6 page:
With Passbook, you can scan your iPhone or iPod touch to check in for a flight, get into a movie, and redeem a coupon. You can also see when your coupons expire, where your concert seats are, and the balance left on that all-important coffee bar card. Wake your iPhone or iPod touch, and passes appear on your Lock screen at the appropriate time and place — like when you reach the airport or walk into the store to redeem your gift card or coupon. And if your gate changes after you’ve checked in for your flight, Passbook will even alert you to make sure you’re not relaxing in the wrong terminal.
There’s isn’t a great deal known about Passbook at the moment, but it looks pretty promising, and will likely require developers to use a new iOS 6 API in order to get the app (and its associated service) upp and running on your device.
