Apple could be planning to ditch their current 30 pin dock connector present on all their iOS devices in favor of a smaller, more compact solution, iMore reports. The new connector would also not be Thunderbolt or Micro-USB, simply a smaller version of the current connector.
The 30-pin connector has been ever-present on iOS devices for the past ten years, but according to the report, we could be seeing a new charging system as soon as the rumored iPhone 5.
Even though a smaller connector would save space, it’d be a shame if that meant people could no longer use docks and accessories designed for the 30-pin connector – many speakers, alarm clocks, and other docking accessories would be rendered obsolete. I am confident, however, that Apple will have thought of something to compensate.
