Reports of a significantly redesigned MacBook Pro with an ultra-thin new design have been circulating since last April. AppleInsider has now rekindle those rumors, stating that Apple will indeed launch revamped Air-like MacBook Pros
…people familiar with Apple’s roadmap say the Cupertino-based company currently plans to exit 2012 having completed a top-to-bottom revamp of its notebooks lineup that will see new MacBook Pros adopt the same design traits that have made its MacBook Airs an increasingly popular choice among mobile consumers.
The report doesn’t provide any information we haven’t already heard about the possible redesign, but it does (perhaps strangely) suggest that the new MacBook Pros won’t all come at the same time. Instead, Apple will first release a 15-inch version, followed by a 17-inch version later in the months following. AppleInsider believes that such a transition could begin this spring.
leaks […] regarding an ultra-thin 15-inch Apple notebook slated to hit the market this spring indeed pertain to Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Pro makeover, regardless of what marketing name the company ultimately chooses to stamp on its bezel. It’s to rely heavily on Thunderbolt and be built around Intel’s forthcoming Ivy Bridge microarchitecture and mobile components currently slated to start shipping in April.
I’m not convinced that Apple would break up the upgrade timing between the sizes of their MacBook Pro – it just doesn’t seem to make much sense. The notion of an ultra-thin MacBook Pro without an optical drive, however, seems almost certain.
