An iPhone 4 user got a nasty surprise recently, reports The Register, when his iPhone 4 began smoking and glowing red-hot on Australian Regional Express flight Zl319.
According to the airline’s press release, passengers began to notice his device (pictured above) smoking and glowing red hot, and alerted a flight attendant, who was able to extinguish the red glow. Fortunately, the plane had already landed when the iPhone began to get hot under the collar.
It’s unclear what caused the device to become dangerously hot (although the battery would typically be the prime suspect), but fortunately, the plane was not damaged, and nobody was injured as a result of this frightening experience.
As you can see from the above image, the iPhone clearly has a number of cracks in the rear casing, as well as a hole where the glow was coming from.
