After considerable work on porting Apple’s iPhone 4S-exclusive Siri functionality to work on other devices, developers Steven Troughton-Smith and chpwn have finally succeeded at fully porting Siri to the iPhone 4 & iPod touch.
The pair had previously succeeded in getting Siri to run on the iPhone 4, but it could not communicate with the Apple servers required for the service to deliver results. This latest port bypasses this issue, completely functioning on both the iPhone 4 and the iPod touch.
An interview between Troughton-Smith and 9to5Mac reveals that the port was around a 20-step process, and requires access to a jailbroken iPhone 4S in order to function. There is no intention to release this port to the public, and it is intended only to serve as a proof of concept.
News of the successful port was shared on Twitter, alongside a screenshot showing Siri working through Wi-Fi in Airplane Mode, and have also produced a video showing the port in action, embedded below.
