Despite previous rumors from earlier today, TiPb’s Rene Ritchie reports that the next version of Apple’s iPhone will be available for sale across the United States on Friday, October 7.
Further, Ritchie’s report tends to lean towards the updated being more like a souped-up iPhone 4 rather than a completely redesigned iPhone, although it’s possible that he’s referring to the rumored cheaper iPhone model that Apple may release. Also, this projected October 7 release date may suggest that the September 7 rumor from earlier today may merely reflect that iPhone’s announcement to go on sale one month later.
The report continues to suggest that, despite rumors of a possible iPad 2 HD with a Retina display this fall, it’s unlikely that any upcoming generation of the iPad will arrive before spring of next year.
Rene Ritchie is typically a very credible source, and doesn’t typically run around slinging dubious rumors, so I’d grant this report significantly more credibility than many other rumors you have have seen. Keep in mind, however, that these plans are not concrete, and Apple could change their minds at any point up until the last day.
