With products like the iPad and MacBook Air challenging and changing the way consumers thing about portable computers, Japanese blog Macotakara claims that Apple may be preparing to launch a brand new line of Macs unlike anything they have released before.
The report cites sources within Apple’s Asia supply chain, and claims that Apple is currently preparing to launch a brand new line of Macs that are described as being “absolutely different from current products,” and may surface by the end of the year.
The report, brief though it may be, continues on to suggest that while no further details could be provided on the matter, the design of the new units marks such a departure from Apple’s current Macs that they could even come to market under a new brand or product name altogether.
Macorakara has a mixed record in predicting information about Apple products releases, so this should be taken with a grain of salt. Previos rumors have suggested the possibility that Apple is preparing ultra slim new 15″ and 17″ MacBooks, which could possibly become MacBook Airs.
It’s been said that Apple has been testing MacBooks equipped with their custom A5 processors, and we have previously considered some of the implications of Apple moving to custom silicon in future Mac products.
Additionally, one analyst has claimed that Apple is preparing a new operating system that will combine OS X and iOS, although the possibility of that seems much less likely to me.
In the end, this is just a rumor, but it will be interesting to see what, if anything, does get released by the end of the year.
