It’s official: OS X Lion is a big freaking deal. According to the reviews in the Mac App Store, over 90% of customers that reviewed Lion gave it a full five star rating – that’s pretty rare for any day-one OS release, even from Apple!
Lion is really winning over the crowds in a big way – and while I expected a positive reaction, I’m pretty overwhelmed at these results. Many are calling it a big leap forward for Apple, though many reviewers do note that there are things that can take getting used to.
The major changes that Apple had made, like replacing Expose and Spaces with Mission Control, the new gestures, the inverted scrolling and so forth don’t really seem to be negatively impacting the way that people view the OS.
Even among the critical reviews, a significant majority are due to issues with either downloading Lion, or issues with third-party application support (neither of which are at all faults of the OS). In reality, taking this into account, the satisfaction rating is likely well over 95%. Astounding.
What about you? Are you among the 95% that would give Lion a five-star rating? I am.
