According to a new report, Apple will now be unlocking all US iPhones purchase at the “no commitment” price. This rumor follows Apple’s recent decision to begin selling unlocked iPhones, and yesterday’s report that Apple is capable of unlocking new iPhone 4 units at retail.
The report cites an internal Apple retail training document, which details that there are now two ways to purchase an unlocked iPhone 4 at an Apple Retail Store – First, purchasing the new “unlocked” unit that does not include a SIM card, and second, to purchase any AT&T iPhone 4 at full no-commitment pricing.
The remainder of the document talks about the activation of unlocked models using a “floater” sim card at an Apple Retail Store, sets a purchase limit of a maximum of 5 unlocked iPhone 4s, and discusses service policies for such phones.
Again, however, I am more interested in Apple giving me the ability to unlock the iPhone 4 I paid full price for last June – When’s that coming, Apple?
