And now, for Apple’s second “big fat deal” of the day – This morning, Apple unveiled brand new Time Capsule devices, removing the 1TB model from their lineup, and adding a 3TB version, which will sell for $499. The 2TB version has seen a significant price drop as well, coming all the way down to $299.
For anyone that was considering an AirPort Extreme, and also has need of some extra storage, the new 2TB Time Capsule is really a pretty good deal. What’s curious here is that there is no mention of previously-rumored new features of the new Time Capsule, such as iOS caching, iCloud integration, an A5 processor, or running iOS as its firmware. Perhaps this could come in a firmware update? At first glance, the new Time Capsules appear to have the same hardware – 802.11N dual-band wireless, with no explicit mention of any firmware or hardware changes.
Also absent is any mention of new AirPort Extremes, which were also expected to be refreshed in the very near future. Perhaps we’ll see more updates today, this week, or in the very near future? Or perhaps Apple is doing away with the AirPort Extreme?
