While the iPhone Dev-Team is working hard on jailbreaking and unlocking solutions for every new iOS update coming out, a company called CutYourSim claims that they have got a service for permanently unlocking GSM iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G.
According to CutYourSim, it is an easy procedure which only takes 2-5 days and will make your iPhone, disregarding your iOS version or baseband, permanently unlocked for any carrier – you never ever have to worry about updating your iPhone again. The operation costs $169 and according to the site:
This does NOT affect your warranty status, because this is an official iPhone unlock.
So how could this even be possible? MacStories have got a theory that “someone at CutYourSim found a way to ‘whitelist’ devices by adding IMEI numbers to Appleās own database” and in that way unlocking the phones. This procedure sounds somewhat illegal, and as we know from Apple’s history, lawyers may be involved very soon. The service is nonetheless interesting, and I think we will see another mouse and cat game developing here.
